In 1994 a new cosmetic line was born with just twelve lipsticks and sold at Barney’s in New York.  Today, this line of lipsticks is a global cosmetics and skincare company owned by Shiseido and has just rolled out the Christopher Kane collection. This latest line of products, which includes shimmering eyeshadow duos and vivid lipgloss, are described as unexpectedly bold yet shockingly natural.

The founder of this worldwide beauty success – whose products are favourites of Madonna, Victoria Beckham, Lydia Hearst and Audrina Patridge – is make-up artist and photographer Francois Nars.

NARS products are renowned for their provocative, alluring shade names such as “Orgasm,” “Deep Throat,” “Sex Machine,” and “Strip Tease.”  One of its best-sellers is the Orgasm Blush, a peachy coral pink with a hint of golden shimmer that flatters many skin tones.

Some of the most iconic shades of blush and bronzer are sold as dynamic duos. Certain products, especially those from collections such as the popular Andy Warhol and Guy Bourdin collections are made available in gift sets, which are better value for money and often cheaper than at department stores.  After some Amazon-ing recently I found the Lose Yourself gift set, which includes a mini lip gloss in Angelika, a sweet candy pink shade, and the full size Blush and Bronzer Duo in Desire/Laguna.

For £19.99 I got a palette which houses more than one product and a lip gloss.  The cost of the full size blush and bronzer palette alone when not in a gift box is £30.  With summer approaching I was looking for a wearable blusher or bronzer for paler skin tones, with a touch of shimmer that wasn’t heavy on the skin.

I am pleased as punch with my Desire blush and Laguna bronzer duo; the colours look very bold in the sleek compact, but a dusting across your complexion delivers just the right amount of colour and a healthy glow.  I was even more chuffed I saved over £10 and got an extra product too.  Amazon had some other value for money make up sets available, which would make a beautiful gift for a friend or family member.

I am tempted to order the Walk On The Wild Side set, made up of an illuminator in a suits-all silvery hue, It Nail Polish, a shimmery blackened violet and a mini Orgasm lipgloss.
