It doesn’t matter where I am in the world, when it comes to making cosmetic purchases, nothing beats the flicker  of excitement I get every time I near a MAC counter!  Of all the make-up companies that have been a favourite for years, MAC’s bottomless variety of foundations, concealers, lipsticks, lip glosses, eye-liners and eye-shadows, have secured its place at number one.

A MAC Store in Manila in The Philippines

Originally, MAC (the abbreviation for Make-Up Art Cosmetics), was founded in Canada’s capital, Toronto in 1984.  The now global cosmetic giant was founded by two Franks (Frank Angelo and Frank Toskan) with the help of a chemist called Vic Casale.  The first MAC store for the US was in New York and opened it’s doors in 1991.  MAC’s products were designed initially for professional make-up artists who worked on the sets of TV shows, in the theatre, etc., however, their  high-performance and stellar ability to create desired flawless looks have seen them become available to the wider community.

An increasing number of people who are not necessarily make-up artists are falling in love with, and buying MAC products again and again, including me!   MAC Lipsticks and Lipglass (MAC’s name for lipgloss) are loved and praised around the world and by many stars.  My first actual “my lips but better” discovery was made at Dublin’s Brown Thomas department store; when I was eighteen I discovered the amazingness that is Viva Glam VI Lipglass.  Since then, I have purchased several over the years and it’s my everyday go-to gloss.

MAC Viva Glam VI Lipglass, which is a firm favourite.  As with all purchases from MAC’s Viva Glam range, every cent goes to helping men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS.  I’ve always admired the concept of style and beauty that gives something back.

If you’re still on the hunt for a concealer that actually conceals, look no further than Studio Finish Concealer.  It’s the best concealer I’ve ever used for discreetly covering under eye circles and other imperfections.  It’s got the perfect balance of being lightweight yet creamy, whilst it will completely cover a spot effortlessly.  Not forgetting the all-important SPF 35.  If you want to achieve that blemish free, rested look in no time, this little round pot is the answer!

Pro-Longwear Lipcreme is a recent discovery and I couldn’t be more impressed with it’s longevity.  It stays put three times longer than a lot of other non MAC lipsticks I’ve bought.

MAC Pro Longwear Lipcreme in Soft Sell

Soft Sell has to be my favourite shade and for me, it’s another one of those “my lips but better” colours.  This and a slick of Viva Glam VI Lipglass make a killer lip combo.

If you’re looking for a durable pinky-nude, the appropriately named Overtime is the perfect way to spend the day au naturel.  What I like about Pro Longwear Lipcreme is the awoken pout feeling when you first glide it on, the crisp colour pay-off and that it has the right amount of that “I’m gonna stick around” sensation, which is just the guarantee you’re looking for from a long-lasting lipstick.

In January 2011, Warner Brothers Consumer Products announced DC Comics’ heroine Wonder Woman was to team up with MAC, to bring the Wonder Woman make-up collection that would hit stores worldwide in Spring of that year.  Blush, eye-shadow, eye-liner, mascara, lipgloss, lipstick, mineral powder and nail polish all played a part in the MAC x Wonder Woman Collection, some products were so popular, department stores were selling out.

Feline favourite Hello Kitty has also enjoyed a sell-out collaboration with MAC, the products’ packaging adorned with Kitty, of course!

MAC is a brand committed to giving back and their social responsibilities include their very own recycling program for customers called Back 2 MAC Recycling; if you return six empty MAC containers to a counter anywhere, you receive a free original Lipglass, eyeshadow or lipstick.

How do you know if you can recycle? Just look for this Back 2 MAC sign on your products’ boxes!

The MAC AIDS Fund supports the community organizations that provide direct services to all men, women and children affected by HIV and AIDS.  MAC has raised a whopping $295, 000,000 to date since 1994.

1 Lipstick… makes a lot of difference!

MAC Viva Glam: 100% of the purchase price of any Viva Glam product (inclusive of lipsticks, Lipglass and holiday sets) goes to the MAC AIDS Fund.  This is a good cause that has been endorsed by many celebrities helping to give back from their purchases of all things MAC; Miley Cyrus, Rhianna, Christina Aguilera, Dita Von Teese and Mary J Blige, to name but a few!

Miley Cyrus recently collaborated with MAC to bring out her very own hot pink Viva Glam Lipstick and Lipglass to help out the MAC AIDS Fund.  If you purchased anything from the Viva Glam range, you should feel proud to support such an important cause.
