As Summer 2017 slowly begins to transition into Autumn 2017, you are more than likely to be thinking about re-introducing those winter warmers back into your closet. But transitioning seasons is tricky, what does one wear when it’s too cool for frilly summer dresses and too warm for thick knits? Luckily, some of the top trends of late will see you through the last dregs of Summer and the beginning of early Autumn. Denim dresses are big news, and floral printed jackets have made an unexpected appearance, so forget covering up with that old jumper! Flats and heels in jewel tones and velvet bags add pops of colour and compliment these simple, jean hued dresses in the most beautiful way…

Make-up Monday…

Only Nineties kids will remember applying their lipstick and kohl in the back of a cab, or on the Tube, a little cag-handed and rarely with a mirror to hand. Make-up looked lived-in, and messy in a special glam-rock way. If you could channel Debbie Harry's midnight kebab stop look on a Saturday night, you oozed some serious cool.

Fast forward to today's massively digitally influenced rituals, think Kardashian contour videos and 12-step smokey eye tutorials, which have gone some way to producing symmetrical, predictable faces that look almost fem-bot.

Thankfully, AW17 is set to see something of a false-perfection backlash. Why not take a break from obsessive blending and precision, and go for something a little rough around the edges… yep, crap-plication is the newest emerging beauty trend!

Distressed Kohl…

Pile a kohl liner all around and into your lash lines, taking it outward until it looks like an undone Bardot wing. You can easily achieve this in seconds by smoking out the kohl with a small smudger brush.

For a darker, more dramatic take on this look, you can break up the black using an eyeshadow brush to paint any excess over the lids and outwards for a sooty halo. Rubbing the lids with your finger adds more destruction. Apply some black mascara for lash definition. Keep lips bare and natural.

Kohl picks…

L'Oreal Paris Infallible Gel Crayon in Back To Black, £4.99

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Black Bean,
£5.50

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Black Velvet, £15.50

Socket to them…

Vibe? Applied in the back of a car that drove over a speed bump. Generously trace your top lashes with some bright pot eyeliner with your eyes closed. Then, open wide while the liner is still wet. Hey, presto, half the colour will transfer into your creases. Line your bottom lashline equally as thick, but don't join up the lines at the corners. To avoid a clown face, strip back the rest of your make-up. A bit of leftover looking lip stain is all you need.

Bold pot eyeliner picks…

MAC Chromaline pot eyeliners in Hi-Def Cyan and Primary Yellow, £16.50 each – you could blend these two together for a fun looking "pea-soup" shade!

Stila Smudge Pot in Electric Blue £13

NYX Gel Liner and Smudger in Teal, £8

Steamed Liner …

This swampy eye look is meant to look like you slept with your eyeliner on. Alternatively, apply a generous amount of pot or pencil liner along the lower lash line and dot the same colour between the top lashes. Fuzz the lower line downwards with a smudger brush, so it looks like you've been in the sauna with your make-up on. Dabbing some metallic pigment powder in the same colour on top of the lines will set them and add some depth. Skip mascara, and brush your brows upwards with brow gel. Good morning!

Steamed Liner Picks…

Smashbox Always On Gel Liner in Baller, £18

MAC Pigment in Emerald Green, £16

Max-Cara…

To paraphrase Dolly Parton, it takes a lot of effort for mascara to look this cheap. Curl your lashes and then paint your lashes almost individually with the tip of your wand, blobbing on the colour and then separating the lashes. Do this repeatedly until you think you're done, then apply more. To finish off, drag the wand back and forth through your lashes. Now do all this again with your lower lashes!

Max-Cara picks…

NYX Coloured Mascara, £6

Kiko Smart Coloured Mascara, £5.90

Snogged Off…

Remember being 16 and being able to kiss for two hours straight before appearing with the most beautiful, rebellious looking stained lip? Well, this is what you're going for now. Use your finger to press a matte lipstick onto your lips, then blot this to create the stained look. If you want to blur the edges, an eyeshadow brush is ideal. To make lips look licked, top with a clear gloss in the centre. Alternatively, slick on one of the new glossy lip stains that do all this for you. Feel free to do the actual snogging, too!

Snogged Off Picks…

YSL Glossy Stain, £26

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain, £7.99

Safe to say I have fallen in love with LA make-up brand Colourpop. Not only do they have an extensive range of velvety soft satin lip colours and the best collection of matte and shimmer eyeshadows and face powders ever, they recently launched their No Filter concealers, and an impressive set of sleek, professional brushes, which would be great for blending their ultra-wearable bronzers and Super Shock Highlighters.
If you want a pop of Colourpop in your life, check out their website!

Aura, the new fragrance by Mugler. I would love to try this as I just love the mysterious Mugler perfumes, and I love Alien – my fave! Aura has a combination of sweet, vanilla, woody and white florals which work in a somewhat whimsical way. This is something I've always loved about Mugler, their fragrances have an unexpected mixture of notes which makes their fragrances as individual as the person wearing them and they don't smell overly floral or girly.

Lipstick Queen in Saint Sheer – I have never tried anything in this lipstick brand, founded by lipstick lover Poppy King. Saint Sheer looks like the perfect pinky nude for everyday, a shade you could wear all year round.

Greek brand Korres have the best body lotions I've ever used. Body Milks boast an ultra hydrating formula that sinks into the skin leaving it silky soft all day. Japanese Rose is a beautiful oriental scent. You won't be able to miss the eclectic product packaging!

Sally Hansen's new Colour Therapy range has just launched, complete with rose gold lids to top off their generous bottles. The colour range boasts some beautiful jewel tones for Fall and some duochromes like Reflection Pool, a greenish blue shade colour flip that I really want to try! It reminds me of some of the Aquarium colours Barry M launched a couple of years back.
