Dupe Alert!

Beauty & Fragrance, Colours, Cosmetics Collections, DIY Health & Beauty, Economics & Finance, Fashion, High Street Heroes, Pattern & Print, Retail, SS17, Tips

There are hundreds of holy grail palettes on the market, some of which come with price tags that aren’t exactly within everybody’s reach. Many people also have an ethical reason to source a dupe rather than the original itself; while there are several make-up companies who don’t test on animals, unfortunately, some of the biggest brands are not cruelty free. While no bunnies were harmed in the making of Urban Decay’s Naked Palettes, they are a little on the pricey side, retailing at almost £40 on the UD website! Luckily, many mid-range and drugstore brands recognise such high-end price taggery and are always keeping a close watch of the beauty trends for major dupe inspiration.

Naked Heat Palette, £39.50, Urban Decay

BH Cosmetics Solar Flare, Galaxy Chic and Supernova Palettes

BH Cosmetics, from the City of Angels, are affordable, cruelty free and their products ooze plenty of LA cool! They drew lots of inspiration from the big fascination with galaxy print when they bought out their Solar Flare, Supernova and Galaxy Chic baked eyeshadow palettes, housing all of that celestial magic in the most beautifully printed compacts.

Urban Decay Moondust Palette, £36

BH Cosmetics Supernova Palette, £11.80 ($15.99) on

Super pigmented, finely milled shades that suit everyone, and Supernova has to be a definite dupe of UD’s Moondust palette, which doesn’t host as many shades as these beauties. The latest addition to the BH Cosmetics Milky Way, Solar Flare, boasts several pearlescent deep neutrals almost identical to UD Naked Heat, so much so it could safely pass as a dupe.

BH Cosmetics Solar Flare 18-colour baked eyeshadow palette, £11.80 ($15.99) on

There are benefits to rummaging the drugstores or the world wide web for dupes, you discover your new favourite cosmetic brand, you end up with a lot more product for your money, and you may find a dupe that’s even better than the real thing!

My Favourite Product Midweek…

AW17, Beauty & Fragrance, DIY Health & Beauty, High Street Heroes, How To's, Nails, Retail, Tips

We’ve all been there. 2 minutes to spare and bare nails, you paint them in record time, all while answering those “where are u?” texts, gingerly fishing out some shoes or a bag with your wet nails, and leaving the house. Result… you turn up at the event/night out/party with some up and coming marbled mess for a manicure. Gone are the days of dented gel jobs and that so called precision colour that’s gone everywhere but on your talons, and looks like you painted your nails on a bumpy speedboat.

If you need to set your nails in a hurry, Speed Setter by Essie is the answer to all of those manicure mishaps!

This is a top coat that sets any nail polish in one minute. Used in place of your usual top coat, Speed Setter delivers a touch dry, diamond-shine finish in 60 seconds. When I first bought this, I wasn’t holding out much hope for it living up to its claim, as I don’t rate those setting sprays at all, they tend to leave a smoky haze in the room. So I was pleasantly surprised when I recently used Speed Setter and my nails didn’t take half as long to dry as they usually do. I had a hardened finish that was ultra glossy in no time. I would recommend Speed Setter to anyone wanting to speed up their manis and pedis.

Essie Speed Setter Top Coat is sold at larger Boots stores and retails at £9.99. For more info & to buy, click here:

The 90’s Are Over… As If!

Vampy wine reds and sultry indigos in Essie’s fall 2017 collection are giving off major Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction vibes, while powdery pink and metallic lavender behold memories of Cher in Clueless. All of the hues in the “As If” collection draw inspiration from the sleek, cool aesthetic of the 90’s, the decade that bought us Seattle’s finest grunge greats, and the era that connected us… not just to AOL, but to some rather influential styles that continue to inspire the trends of today.

It’ll be impossible to just pick one Essie Fall favourite from this lot of sweet nail treats! Introducing all the awesomeness that is Essie’s Fall 2017 collection …

Girly Grunge has to be the heavy metal star of the collection. It’s the palest lilac with plenty of silver shine.

Saved By The Belle is a light baby pink with a subtle blue undertone.

As If! – the namesake shade. It’s a powdery periwinkle blue that’s snook in some underlying red undertones.

Mix-taupe – warm ivory shade with a dash of pink.

Knee-high Life is the chicest deep wine with purple undertones.

Dressed To The Nineties is a dark indigo purple that has the most beautiful blue-green shimmer. This would be like painting the Northern Lights onto your talons!

Essie’s Fall Collection shades are now available at Boots stores in the UK and on Essie’s website…

Over the past couple of years, rose gold everything has graced the market – from smartphones and homewares to the most Instagrammable jewellery pieces and watches, millions of us can’t get enough of this beautiful hue. Rose gold continues to trend thick and fast, and its no surprise the world of beauty has been following suit.

If you love the budget friendly brand Make-Up Revolution, you won’t be able to hide your excitement at what magic it’s sister brand I Heart Make-Up has up their sleeve! I Heart Make-Up are well known for their heart shaped blush powders and chocolate palettes (almost identical to their Too Faced counterparts!). The next launch to join their collection of sell-out palettes is a chocolate and rose gold eyeshadow palette…

I Heart Make-Up have previously released nine other chocolate bar palettes, very much inspired by our favourite salted caramels, Milky Bars and popping candies. With these gorgeous palettes, you can enjoy a guilty Galaxy moment without the calories. Each of the palettes has a collection of matte, shimmer and frosty glitter shades and boasts a mirror that stretches the whole of the inside lid. I Heart Chocolate and Peaches has previously been reviewed on #FASHALIA101, it’s a very fitting dupe to the peach palette Too Faced came out with, with identical shades.

I Heart Make Up I Heart Chocolate & Rose Gold Palette, which launches in ten days!

The tenth edition to the chocolate bar collection is a dark chocolate bar with the most eye catching rose gold chocolate squares. It opens up to reveal a vibrant variety of matte neutral shades, rustic tones, coppery metallics and a unique hot pink shade. The colours in I Heart Make Up I Heart Chocolate and Rose Gold are not dissimilar to the Rose Gold Edition Palette by Huda Beauty, which retails for £56.

Rest assured, the I Heart Make Up version, which launches in ten days time, will cost a fraction of the price!
