My Favourite Product Midweek…

AW17, Beauty & Fragrance, DIY Health & Beauty, High Street Heroes, How To's, Nails, Retail, Tips

We’ve all been there. 2 minutes to spare and bare nails, you paint them in record time, all while answering those “where are u?” texts, gingerly fishing out some shoes or a bag with your wet nails, and leaving the house. Result… you turn up at the event/night out/party with some up and coming marbled mess for a manicure. Gone are the days of dented gel jobs and that so called precision colour that’s gone everywhere but on your talons, and looks like you painted your nails on a bumpy speedboat.

If you need to set your nails in a hurry, Speed Setter by Essie is the answer to all of those manicure mishaps!

This is a top coat that sets any nail polish in one minute. Used in place of your usual top coat, Speed Setter delivers a touch dry, diamond-shine finish in 60 seconds. When I first bought this, I wasn’t holding out much hope for it living up to its claim, as I don’t rate those setting sprays at all, they tend to leave a smoky haze in the room. So I was pleasantly surprised when I recently used Speed Setter and my nails didn’t take half as long to dry as they usually do. I had a hardened finish that was ultra glossy in no time. I would recommend Speed Setter to anyone wanting to speed up their manis and pedis.

Essie Speed Setter Top Coat is sold at larger Boots stores and retails at £9.99. For more info & to buy, click here:

Several beauty launches have been released recently, all of which are extremely lust worthy and will have all beauty and make-up addicts flocking to get their hands on them. TAM Beauty, the super-brand behind Make-Up Revolution, Freedom Make-Up and I Heart Make-Up has another exciting sister brand exclusive to Boots stores, Live Love Make-Up Obsession. Live Love Make-Up Obsession’s star attraction is the palettes you can fill and customise with your own shades of eyeshadow, brow wax, highlighter, bronzer and blush, to create your own collection of shades unique to you. The variety of single, star-embossed pans is endless and they have some absolutely heavenly highlighter shades available!

With the festive season only three months away, a personalised make-up palette would make the best gift idea. The refillable palettes come with a large mirror and aren’t just available in boring black… you can get gold, silver, rose gold, hot pink and white, too!

Empty palettes retail at £6 each and individual eyeshadow, blush, bronzer and highlighter shades retail at £3 each, a lot less pricey than the refillable palette Bobbi Brown came out with a few years back.

You can see the extensive range of palettes and shades at

http://www.boots.com/makeup-obsession-

Make-Up Revolution fans will be delighted to hear a new Flawless eyeshadow palette has hit the market. Flawless 4 is the latest of the firm favourite Pro 32 palettes and it comprises of a mixture of matte and shimmer shades, all of which are super blendable and versatile. There’s a good variety of autumnal shades, from neutrals to warm smoky shades, from soft shades to jewel toned plums.

If you are obsessed with a majestic glow, Revolution’s newest highlight palettes will be right up your street! They both boast 8 mesmerisingly beautiful shimmer shades that can be used to achieve that glowing, lit from within complexion. The soft, smooth formulation of the shades makes them super easy to blend and the shades in Ultra Cool Glow can be used to apply luminescence absolutely anywhere to deliver that touch of dimension: cheekbones, brow bones, Cupid’s bow, inner corners of your eyes.

Pro Glow 2 is a mix of white, gold and peachy shades with the same luxe, shimmering finish as the similar looking Ultra Pro Glow palette. The shades in Pro Glow 2 will add natural touches of radiance where the light would catch your skin.

Pro Glow 2 and Ultra Cool Glow, both £8, Make-Up Revolution

There’s plenty more magical glow where that came from… another one of Revolution’s irresistible new launches is the Liquid Highlighter drops. You can achieve instant radiance anywhere with this glow-getting potion, it’s so good!

Mix a drop or 2 of this reflective illuminatior into your foundation for a dewy and glowy complexion, mix a few drops into your favourite body lotion for a gorgeous all over glow. With or without make-up, Liquid Highlighter can achieve that beautiful natural glow. At £6, and available in 7 shades, this bottle of pure magic is set to rival the likes of Benefit’s High Beam and MAC’s Strobe Creams.

And can we all just take a moment to appreciate the wonderful-ness of the iridescent packaging… wow!

Make-up Monday…

Beauty & Fragrance, Colours, Cosmetics Collections, DIY Health & Beauty, Fashion, High Street Heroes, How To's, Popular Culture, SS17, Tips, Uncategorized

Only Nineties kids will remember applying their lipstick and kohl in the back of a cab, or on the Tube, a little cag-handed and rarely with a mirror to hand. Make-up looked lived-in, and messy in a special glam-rock way. If you could channel Debbie Harry's midnight kebab stop look on a Saturday night, you oozed some serious cool.

Fast forward to today's massively digitally influenced rituals, think Kardashian contour videos and 12-step smokey eye tutorials, which have gone some way to producing symmetrical, predictable faces that look almost fem-bot.

Thankfully, AW17 is set to see something of a false-perfection backlash. Why not take a break from obsessive blending and precision, and go for something a little rough around the edges… yep, crap-plication is the newest emerging beauty trend!

Distressed Kohl…

Pile a kohl liner all around and into your lash lines, taking it outward until it looks like an undone Bardot wing. You can easily achieve this in seconds by smoking out the kohl with a small smudger brush.

For a darker, more dramatic take on this look, you can break up the black using an eyeshadow brush to paint any excess over the lids and outwards for a sooty halo. Rubbing the lids with your finger adds more destruction. Apply some black mascara for lash definition. Keep lips bare and natural.

Kohl picks…

L'Oreal Paris Infallible Gel Crayon in Back To Black, £4.99

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Black Bean,
£5.50

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Black Velvet, £15.50

Socket to them…

Vibe? Applied in the back of a car that drove over a speed bump. Generously trace your top lashes with some bright pot eyeliner with your eyes closed. Then, open wide while the liner is still wet. Hey, presto, half the colour will transfer into your creases. Line your bottom lashline equally as thick, but don't join up the lines at the corners. To avoid a clown face, strip back the rest of your make-up. A bit of leftover looking lip stain is all you need.

Bold pot eyeliner picks…

MAC Chromaline pot eyeliners in Hi-Def Cyan and Primary Yellow, £16.50 each – you could blend these two together for a fun looking "pea-soup" shade!

Stila Smudge Pot in Electric Blue £13

NYX Gel Liner and Smudger in Teal, £8

Steamed Liner …

This swampy eye look is meant to look like you slept with your eyeliner on. Alternatively, apply a generous amount of pot or pencil liner along the lower lash line and dot the same colour between the top lashes. Fuzz the lower line downwards with a smudger brush, so it looks like you've been in the sauna with your make-up on. Dabbing some metallic pigment powder in the same colour on top of the lines will set them and add some depth. Skip mascara, and brush your brows upwards with brow gel. Good morning!

Steamed Liner Picks…

Smashbox Always On Gel Liner in Baller, £18

MAC Pigment in Emerald Green, £16

Max-Cara…

To paraphrase Dolly Parton, it takes a lot of effort for mascara to look this cheap. Curl your lashes and then paint your lashes almost individually with the tip of your wand, blobbing on the colour and then separating the lashes. Do this repeatedly until you think you're done, then apply more. To finish off, drag the wand back and forth through your lashes. Now do all this again with your lower lashes!

Max-Cara picks…

NYX Coloured Mascara, £6

Kiko Smart Coloured Mascara, £5.90

Snogged Off…

Remember being 16 and being able to kiss for two hours straight before appearing with the most beautiful, rebellious looking stained lip? Well, this is what you're going for now. Use your finger to press a matte lipstick onto your lips, then blot this to create the stained look. If you want to blur the edges, an eyeshadow brush is ideal. To make lips look licked, top with a clear gloss in the centre. Alternatively, slick on one of the new glossy lip stains that do all this for you. Feel free to do the actual snogging, too!

Snogged Off Picks…

YSL Glossy Stain, £26

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain, £7.99
