Rare Accessory Alert!

I have a feeling Chanel only made a few of these rare evening cross body beauties, as they aren’t as commonly seen on the style circuit as the 2.55, Le Boy or Reissue bags. Some of these come in an unexpected shape and design that doesn’t follow the classic crowd, they’re the type of bag you would wear if you didn’t want to blend in, but instead be more of an isolated incident with your individual style.

Known for their timeless luxurious quilted designs that never date, Chanel are also good at thinking outside the box when it comes to their unique clutch bags.  Fans of their make up compacts may recognise the compact powder shaped Minaudière bags, which come in black or white.

The classic compact is just one of many shapes they have succeeded in experimenting with.

The cassette tape has to be my favourite – glossy, boxy and sturdy to hold all of your evening essentials, whilst retaining its daintiness and rock n’ roll edge.  This definitely is on my rock chick accessory bucket list!

No5 is undoubtedly one of Coco Chanel’s most successful holy grail fragrances, loved by millions of women worldwide, so it made perfect sense for them to release a clutch based on that signature bottle shape.

The Resort 2017 must have box clutch packs somewhat of an earthy vintage vibe to it that looks as though it has been inspired by a luxury cigar box, if the medallions and references to Cuba and Paris are anything to go by.  You can’t help but notice the centrepiece, the unmistakable cameo of Coco Chanel herself.

To everyone who loves a good quality perfume, happy National Fragrance Day.

Your favourite scents evoke such strong memories because your sense of smell connects to the part of your brain that controls memories and emotions. This is why certain fragrances will often remind you of certain places, times in your life or memorable events.
Personally, I have a few fragrances that evoke memories of certain points in my life, some of which have been sadly discontinued or are very hard to find.

Teen Memories…

Valentino’s Rock n’ Rose was a favourite during my late teens, it reminds me of my favourite lively bustling city, Dublin, because the last bottle of Rock n’ Rose I bought was from Dublin Airport.
One I Would Go Back To…

Who can resist the warm luscious notes of a floral bouquet…? Lola by Marc Jacobs is that type of scent that’s playful with a flirtatious wink. Lola is one of those perfumes that reminds me of all of the adventures I got up to in my early twenties, doing different interesting jobs and travelling to some amazing places, I remember discovering Lola during this time. It’s not just the scent’s irresistible floral notes that make this, the artfully designed bottle is a beautiful way to liven up any dressing table.

Another One I Would Go Back To…

I couldn’t just pick one for this category. Flowerbomb by Viktor and Rolf will always evoke memories of Charlie as a tiny puppy, as this was around the time I discovered this wonderful pink grenade. Flowerbomb has a full-bodied mix of sambac jasmine, orchid, rose and patchouli that to me have always given me the impression that this is what the most magical secret garden would smell like if I was to stand in it.

One I Wear Everyday…

I absolutely love Ghost the Fragrance. Even though it’s notes of Ambrette, Rose and white flowers work together in Ghost to convey this enticing feminine fragrance, Ghost remains a modern classic which is understated enough for everyday.

My Recent Discovery…

I’ve been doing a lot of reading up on night fragrances lately and Midnight Heat from Beyoncé’s perfume range was one that was of particular interest. I was mainly attracted by the gradual lilac to blue purple bottle which gives a sensual introduction to what I expected this to smell like. Purple orchid and a velvety aroma make Midnight Heat the ideal captivating aromatic fragrance to wear at night.

Happiness is finding the Make Up Revolution eye palette you have been after for a while.  I’d been itching to try the Affirmation Pro 32 Eyeshadow palette for ages.  I love all the Eyeshadow, blush, bronzer and highlighter palettes MUR do, the quality and colour pay off is as good as MAC, Nars, Bobbi Brown or Urban Decay, without the beauty counter price tag.

Make Up Revolution Pro 32 Affirmation Eye Shadow Palette, £8 at Superdrug

I’ve been using their other Pro 32 palette, Beyond Flawless which I absolutely love.  Each boast an abundance of natural and deep smouldering shades that can be worn day or night.  MUR sure know how to make super wearable shimmery neutral and smoky shades you can use to create virtually any look.

Matte lips have stuck around for a while and are here to stay.  In a previous post I mentioned dupes for my favourite Kylie Lip Kits.  NYX have a dupe for nearly all of the popular Kylie shades if you can’t get your hands on the much sought after Lip Kits.

Soft Matte Lip Creams come in 34 shades, wear without cracking and feel super velvety.

Transylvania, a black-forest plum, is the best copy for Kourt K, for those brave enough to take a chance on a dark lip.

On the more subdued end, Stockholm is the perfect dupe for Candy K, both are a suits-all pinky nude.

My favourites have to be Cairo, a very pale nude, Zurich, a mid tone nude shade, Tokyo, a bubblegum pale pink, and Sydney, a pale pink with blue undertones.

NYX also do a similar product to the Soft Matte Lip Cream called Liquid Suede, a liquid lipstick with a silky matte feel.  If you’re looking for a dupe of Dolce K, the Liquid Suede in Sandstorm is your answer.

Lip Lingerie, also by NYX, is shockingly similar to Ms. Jenner’s brainchild product, the shade called Embellishment, a mauve toned nude, is the best Koko K dupe.

I like a lot of NYX’s products because they are committed to delivering professional formulas to a wide market, I was over the moon when I discovered NYX stands had landed in my local Boots stores, and they’re cruelty free! Happy Bunny.

I had a route around in TK Maxx this week and came across some amazing bargains.  I’m in love with my new fragrance Viva La Juicy, Juicy Couture’s popular fragrance.  It’s a charming and irresistible scent with notes of delicious berries, vanilla, jasmine and amber.  This is the one fragrance everyone should own in their lifetime.  I got a 30ml gift set with a body wash.  30ml would’ve cost £37 in Boots, I found this gift set at TK Maxx for £19.99!

A longtime fan of floriental fragrances, I was gutted a week or two ago when I found out Flash by Jimmy Choo had been discontinued by the brand.  For a couple of years I considered it my signature scent, one I kept going back to.  I loved the combination of red fruits, white flowers and woody notes and I got loads of compliments on my perfume.  Blossom, the pink version of Flash, is a fruity floral take on Flash that smells just as amazing as its predecessor.

This week I have been looking at all of the new beauty and cosmetic launches for Fall and Winter and have to say I have come across some absolute gems I’m sure will become best sellers.

Nail wise I am loving the Winter 2016 collection from America’s No1 salon nail experts, Essie, who have released possibly the most colourful nail collection for this time of year.  The first thing that pops into your head when you think “Winter Nail Collection” and people often think of cold hues like grey, slate and black or plums and wines; so Essie’s turnout was a pleasant surprise.  There’s something for everyone in this collection.

If you love deep reds and wines then Ready To Boa (glistening bronze mahogany) and Party On A Platform (London garnet red) won’t disappoint.  There’s also a metallic gold called Getting Groovy, the collection’s namesake and one of my favourites.  Satin Sister is another one of my favourite shades and it’s described as a sleek ebony peacock blue.  For those of you that like to stick to neutrals then your manicures and pedicures will ooze plenty of chic with Oh Behave! (nude peach frost) and Go With The Flowy (cloud like dove grey).  Essie’s collection is said to take some inspiration from the London 60’s party scene, hence the shade names, but clever Essie have also tailored the six shades to the upcoming festive season.

Satin Sister & Getting Groovy as a metallic accent!

New Look have also had an exciting time with the launch of their much overhauled and extended cosmetic and beauty range on November 13, that will be available at their larger stores.  Wolverhampton’s store had so many goodies.  New Look weren’t bad at ticking beauty trend boxes before but oh my they’ve upped their game with sleek packaging and winning formulas sure to rival higher end cosmetic lines.  The majority of the products are purse friendly under £10.

The Oxygen Nail Growth Formula is inspired by pricier nail care products on the market and works to promote the growth of your natural nails.  I landed a bargain here, £3.99 and I’m looking forward to using it and seeing it deliver.

A lot of their nail colours embrace the hottest trends.  Matte and gel formula polishes also make up their nail collection.  I picked up 2 shimmery metallics, Mermaid (sea blue) and Petrol (shimmery red toned copper).  New Look have also included baked bronzers, blushers and highlighters which are similar to MAC’s Mineralize Skinfinish Powders.  If you’re looking for an amazing smelling body wash or body lotion, they have also released some gorgeous smelling bath, body and skincare treats too.  Honey and Almond body wash has to be my favourite of these, but they also have other scents like Coconut and Rose.

Honey & Almond body wash (above) and Coconut & Rose body wash, £3.99 each in New Look beauty range

It seems there isn’t a thing New Look haven’t thought of beauty wise, with plenty of promising facial skincare and hair care products making up the range too.

Detox Tea Tree Purifying Face Mask, £4.99

Coconut Oil Body Melt Body Butter, £7.99

With Christmas just around the corner, their gift sets look so irresistible you’ll want to keep them for yourself!

Mini Rollerball Fragrances Set, £9.99

4 Pack Liquid Lipstick Collection, £14.99

Metallic Holographic False Nails, £3.99

5 Pack Ombré Brush Set, £14.99

I could have easily bought a lot more of these New Look treats and I’m looking forward to wrapping some of them up as gifts this Christmas.

Garnier Ultimate Blends range of hair products and body lotions was something I’d also heard great things about and I’m so glad I discovered The Sleek Restorer Hair Oil.

It’s a multi-use hair oil that is formulated with coconut oil, which has been proven to be one of the best natural hair conditioners.  Used before and after styling it protects against the more unwanted effects of straightening and curling (frizz, flyaways, split ends).  Being a multitasker this product is also great for pre-nourishing your hair before you wash it for added suppleness.  Using The Sleek Perfector, I have noticed my hair stays straighter and sleeker for longer.

The Garnier Honey Treasures Body Restoring Lotion is also worth a try if you’re looking for a body moisturiser that’s easily absorbed.  This has a slight honey smell but isn’t at all overpowering and leaves your skin feeling amazingly soft, I highly recommend.

And finally I’ll finish off with something limited edition.  Vaseline’s recent collaboration with Lulu Guinness has delivered one of the most stylish lip balm tins around.  Limited edition tins are something Vaseline are no stranger to.  Queen Bee, Pink Bubbly and Paint The Town Red also proved very popular.

I know I am not the only blogger to constantly sing the praises of The Make-Up Revolution.  They pack the premium qualities of the most prestigious make-up products on the market, in fact, everything about their sell-out palettes is premium but the price.  I’ve picked up some of their bestsellers from Superdrug and I’ve also been click happy on their website!  My review on the Iconic Pro 2 palette makes it easy to see why this brand is a firm favourite amongst bloggers, make-up pros and general beauty addicts!

It’s comparison to LORAC’s Pro 2 palette is bang on in terms of colours, however, it’s £6.99 dupe scores 1 or 2 points more in terms of overall impression because it has the professional brush and larger mirror the LORAC one doesn’t have.

Most bargain palettes offer a sponge applicator I’d discard within a day in favour of a professional brush, well done MUR for taking note.  The fluffy end is ideal for base coverage all over the eyelid and the flat end is ideal for creating a look of definition.  The brush performs just as well as some of my Real Techniques and Lottie London eye brushes.

This palette’s packaging is the type of sleek finish you’d expect to see from a backstage make-up artist and sturdy enough to hold a large mirror running the entire inside of the lid.  While not as decorative as some of it’s pricier counterparts, it’s professional presentation and performance as a versatile make-up product can’t be faulted.

Most of the bloggers I have been watching on YouTube of late have joined the Revolution and now, like me they are amazed with London’s best beauty phenomenon yet!

Lacquer & Leather… What This Week’s Been All About!

It’s only the first week of March but I have accumulated a few new beauty favourites already from some newer brands and some not so new.

Freedom Make-Up, which has been on sale at Superdrug stores is a fairly new London brand.  I am having a love affair with liquid lipsticks and lip lacquer products at the moment.  They’re well worth a try if you want a hit of crisp colour that lasts longer than a conventional lipstick or gloss.  If you’re new to Freedom’s winning concept of professional standard products at super affordable prices, the Pro Melts Lipglosses are one product well worth a try.  I say I am not a “pink” girly girl a lot but I love a popping fuchsia lip from time to time, so Smooth and Sugar Fix were the ones I picked up on my recent journey to my local Superdrug, which also stocks Freedom’s sister brand The Make-Up Revolution.  I am so impressed with this lipstick / gloss hybrid that’s described as having an innovative “melted lipstick” formula, ten out of ten for colour pay-off, shine and general feel on lips, I was also happy with the longevity of Pro Melts.  Working closely with Freedom, Make-Up Revolution came up with a matte version called Salvation Lip Lacquer, which goes on as a cream and morphs into a matte finish for a velvety pout.  Salvation Lip Lacquers are around the same price as Freedom’s Pro Melts, £3!   A variety of shades is available from subtle nudes, bold pinks and classic red, not sure I’m brave enough to rock navy or lavender lips though!

Freedom Pro-Melts Lipglosses in Sugar Fix (above) and Smooth

I’m thrilled to have discovered this revolutionary brand and will be trying out more of their cutting edge products, they’ve even got a strobing highlighter similar to MAC’s Strobe Cream for a massive fraction of the price.  (http://www.freedommakeuplondon.com/)

KIKO Cosmetics Milano (http://www.kikocosmetics.com/en-gb/)  are another new-ish brand I have reviewed before on YouTube, they’re also futuristic in their approach to the latest beauty trends.  One KIKO product I can’t recommend enough is Moondust Face Powder, which is part of their Shining Star collection.  The interstellar inspired packaging alone is stunning, but look inside to reveal the most three dimensional blush you’ve ever used.  This tops other blushers I have used, it delivers just the right amount of healthy glow and shimmer without you looking overdone.

KIKO are a brand originating from Italy, pop-up cosmetic stores selling the brand have been a success, especially at Birmingham’s Bull Ring, Intu Merry Hill and in London, originally KIKO only had stores in Europe but demand for their high-performance, low price make-up gems have soared.  If you’ve not tried this brand you’re missing a right treat!

Sleek layout of a KIKO store on Regent St, London

From an early age, I developed quite a grown-up reading taste, Glamour has to be my favourite British magazine of all time, I’ve been reading it since I was around 12 years old. I love the mixed bag of style and beauty essentials intercepted by articles about issues affecting the world and their takes on the best books, film and TV is unbeatable.  Another thing I love about Glamour is their freebies, this month’s treat for readers is a complexion all rounder from Balance Me.

Radiance Face Mask is a five minute rejuvenator for all skin types which, as well as drawing out impurities, polishes away dead skin cells, gives all important hydration and smoothes at the same time.  I’ve never before tried this brand but something tells me this is one of Balance Me’s best sellers.

Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Nail Polishes from left: Wild Card, Hold ‘Em, Royal Flush and Diamond Top Coat

Those of you that watch both my YouTube channels will know I’m a sucker for a great nail polish and one of the formulas I am currently loving is at home gel standard.  A lot of brands on the high-street are bringing out gel formulas you can paint on as easy as conventional nail polish, no queues at the salon or UV needed!  I’m especially impressed with Revlon’s range, Colorstay Gel Envy.  Wild Card, Hold ‘Em and Royal Flush are my favourites and the Diamond Top Coat ensures that salon quality, gel-like plump finish that lasts for days.
