Make-up Monday…

Only Nineties kids will remember applying their lipstick and kohl in the back of a cab, or on the Tube, a little cag-handed and rarely with a mirror to hand. Make-up looked lived-in, and messy in a special glam-rock way. If you could channel Debbie Harry's midnight kebab stop look on a Saturday night, you oozed some serious cool.

Fast forward to today's massively digitally influenced rituals, think Kardashian contour videos and 12-step smokey eye tutorials, which have gone some way to producing symmetrical, predictable faces that look almost fem-bot.

Thankfully, AW17 is set to see something of a false-perfection backlash. Why not take a break from obsessive blending and precision, and go for something a little rough around the edges… yep, crap-plication is the newest emerging beauty trend!

Distressed Kohl…

Pile a kohl liner all around and into your lash lines, taking it outward until it looks like an undone Bardot wing. You can easily achieve this in seconds by smoking out the kohl with a small smudger brush.

For a darker, more dramatic take on this look, you can break up the black using an eyeshadow brush to paint any excess over the lids and outwards for a sooty halo. Rubbing the lids with your finger adds more destruction. Apply some black mascara for lash definition. Keep lips bare and natural.

Kohl picks…

L'Oreal Paris Infallible Gel Crayon in Back To Black, £4.99

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Black Bean,
£5.50

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Black Velvet, £15.50

Socket to them…

Vibe? Applied in the back of a car that drove over a speed bump. Generously trace your top lashes with some bright pot eyeliner with your eyes closed. Then, open wide while the liner is still wet. Hey, presto, half the colour will transfer into your creases. Line your bottom lashline equally as thick, but don't join up the lines at the corners. To avoid a clown face, strip back the rest of your make-up. A bit of leftover looking lip stain is all you need.

Bold pot eyeliner picks…

MAC Chromaline pot eyeliners in Hi-Def Cyan and Primary Yellow, £16.50 each – you could blend these two together for a fun looking "pea-soup" shade!

Stila Smudge Pot in Electric Blue £13

NYX Gel Liner and Smudger in Teal, £8

Steamed Liner …

This swampy eye look is meant to look like you slept with your eyeliner on. Alternatively, apply a generous amount of pot or pencil liner along the lower lash line and dot the same colour between the top lashes. Fuzz the lower line downwards with a smudger brush, so it looks like you've been in the sauna with your make-up on. Dabbing some metallic pigment powder in the same colour on top of the lines will set them and add some depth. Skip mascara, and brush your brows upwards with brow gel. Good morning!

Steamed Liner Picks…

Smashbox Always On Gel Liner in Baller, £18

MAC Pigment in Emerald Green, £16

Max-Cara…

To paraphrase Dolly Parton, it takes a lot of effort for mascara to look this cheap. Curl your lashes and then paint your lashes almost individually with the tip of your wand, blobbing on the colour and then separating the lashes. Do this repeatedly until you think you're done, then apply more. To finish off, drag the wand back and forth through your lashes. Now do all this again with your lower lashes!

Max-Cara picks…

NYX Coloured Mascara, £6

Kiko Smart Coloured Mascara, £5.90

Snogged Off…

Remember being 16 and being able to kiss for two hours straight before appearing with the most beautiful, rebellious looking stained lip? Well, this is what you're going for now. Use your finger to press a matte lipstick onto your lips, then blot this to create the stained look. If you want to blur the edges, an eyeshadow brush is ideal. To make lips look licked, top with a clear gloss in the centre. Alternatively, slick on one of the new glossy lip stains that do all this for you. Feel free to do the actual snogging, too!

Snogged Off Picks…

YSL Glossy Stain, £26

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain, £7.99

What I’m loving Wednesday…

I discovered Too Faced Melted Metal liquid lipsticks the other day and couldn’t be happier with the formula and shade variety.

The 90’s foiled statement pout has made a comeback in the form of lustrous liquified metal.

Melted Metal is a multi faceted lip colour like you’ve never seen before.  It’s velvet smooth applicator makes light work of gliding on creamy metallic shine  that coats lips in fresh bursts of glazed colour without the sticky, heavy feel of similar liquid lipsticks.

Debutante (far left) has to be my favourite shade.  A neutral peach that isn’t as coral-y on as it looks in the tube.

June is here, which officially means it’s the start of the summer. Exciting. Festival fever will soon be upon us, which means dropping those dull winter warmers in favour of some sizzling hot trends which ooze boho glamour.

Taste the rainbow and get summer party ready in these succulent multicolour Sophia Webster sandals. These beauties are so irresistible they should really come with an envy warning!

Fluorescent pom-poms and tassels are big news and will take the festival fashion scene by storm this summer, be they on wedges or flats. An unlikely comeback that’s cool, colourful and a little eccentric, this trend is a festival in itself.

Block heels meet block colour, with plenty of ditzy tassel detailing, pom-poms and laces to add an element of Coachella cool. Not only are these Aquazzura offerings easy to walk in they tick every 2017 style box. Eye catching and comfortable, you really can have the best of both worlds!

Rebecca Minkoff’s relaxed yet vivid vibe is going right in my beach bag this summer!

It’s time to embark on some colourful adventures this summer with the 12-strong Wanderlust collection from vegan friendly nail polish maestros Zoya.

I was mega excited to hear news of Zoya’s latest collection, which will be available on May 15 on http://www.zoya.com. Wanderlust boasts a bountiful array of colours that look as if they have taken inspiration from sunsets when there are lighter nights. Read on for a reveal of Zoya’s SS17 offerings!

WINNIE is a soft watermelon pink cream which isn’t too pale and isn’t too vivid, this could be the perfect pink for all year round.

BIRDIE is a bold, rich bubblegum pink cream. The type of standout fuchsia shade that has subtle blue undertones to it and would flatter cooler skin tones.

SONJA is a summery crimson red cream. A solid colour that resembles a red-toned pink with warm undertones.

MANDY is the ultimate shimmering berry pink. The soft shimmer turns Mandy into the ultimate glamorous pink with a mysterious depth.

ETSY is a playful looking yet muted fuchsia pink cream that shouldn’t just be reserved for a summer collection but all year round!

SAWYER is a soft taffy orange cream shade, a quieter neutral peach for those looking for a quiet summer mani/pedi.

CORA is the perfect coral cream for SS17, slightly bolder than Sawyer.

JOURNEY is a glimmering strawberry red that could span several seasons.  Very classic with a twist!

RIVER is a cool shimmering cobalt blue. River by name, river by nature!

LOIS is a magenta violet cream.  Zoya know more than a thing or two about creating the perfect tempting purple polish!

ARBOR is a rich olive green cream that may look an odd colour choice for summer.  Even though it resembles Army green, it’s a khaki shade that has been brightened up for the summer.

SCOUT is a fresh moss green that’s been awoken by added shimmer, similar to Arbor, this looks like a gold-toned olive.

There you have it, the Summer 2017 colour collection from Zoya.  If I was to pick a favourite that would be hard because there are several shades I have took a shine to already – River, Mandy and Journey, they’re definitely going right in my cart!
