Under The Sea … with Barry M!

Barry M are banishing the January blues with a gorgeous range of holographic make-up. This latest collection from the cruelty free brand is so magical it should come with a parental warning: Holographic content with chances of turning into a mermaid.

The collection arrived in Boots on January 17, and is soon to arrive at Superdrug on January 31. The range starts from £3.99 with four enchanting nail paints, some of which aren’t unlike the unicorn inspired collection from Nails Inc, which are pricier. There are four shades to choose from: Pinktail, Angelfish, Jellyfish and Butterflyfish. They’re described as a treasure trove of aquatic wonders with each colour shifting shade resembling sparkling ocean waves and shimmering iridescent scales. They can be worn alone or layered over another colour to create a two-tone topcoat.

Slightly pricier at £4.99 are the four Eyeshadow Toppers. These have a cream formula which promise not to crack after applying. Barry M claim that these dreamy holographic hues can be worn on their own or over another eyeshadow to amp up reflection and cover your eyes in multi-dimensional, pearlescent sheen. There are four glimmering, jewel tones: Supernova, Asteroid, Stardust and Luna.

Lastly are four Holographic Lip Toppers. These are in non-sticky, spellbinding shades which are just begging to be Instagrammed. These are multi-chrome glosses which can be worn alone or over a favourite lipstick or lip pencil for that wet look, duo-chrome shine. These are £4.99 with four dreamy shades to choose from: Spellbound, Wizard, Mermaid and Hex.

If you love Barry M’s range of lippies, eyeshadows and nail colours, don’t forget to set a reminder on January 31! 🧜‍♀️ 📆

Beauty Tuesday…

There’s no doubt that over the past few years, nail effects and nail art have been enjoying a rather big moment.

Holographic, glittery, textured, beaded… the beauty market has experienced a boom in nail trends, some of which were never tried before.

Magnetic nail polish, which has only been around this past five or so years, is one of the new phenomenons that will take your manicure from everyday chic to envy inducing and edgy.

Magnetic nail polish…? You may be asking yourself how does this work…? The science behind the magnetic mani is the magnetic particles that have been mixed into the polish that are able to create a pattern when they come into contact with a magnetic force. Most magnetic nail polishes have a magnet on their lid, as this is held over the newly painted nail, the iron powder in the polish gravitates towards the magnet to create the astonishing finish. As if by magic!

One of the first brands to foray into the magnetic field of nail patterns is Nails Inc, who came out with eight jewel-toned metallic colours, each of which boast their own magnet to create an individual magnetic pattern, from fishnet, to star, to wave, magnetic nail polishes attract so many opportunities to take your normal nail look to the next level!

Creating a magnetized mani at home couldn’t be easier.  All you need to do is apply 1 coat of magnetic nail polish, then carefully hold the magnet close over each nail, taking care not to hit your wet nails.  Hold the magnet over each nail for 1 to 2 seconds to create a mesmerising pattern.  Then wait 10-15 minutes for your first coat to dry, and if you feel a second coat is needed, apply a second coat of your magnetic polish, and hold the magnet close to each nail like you did with your first coat.  Wait until it is touch dry then apply a top coat to protect your newly metallized talons.

Nails Inc are giving you the opportunity to experience the full magnet magic for yourself, thanks to a very exciting promotion on their website.   All you need to do is enter the code FESTIVALNAILS at checkout, when purchasing their full collection of 8 magnetic polishes, which is called the Festival Fever Collection.

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw how much I’d saved on this set – a nail collection that should be over £100, and a whopping £96 saving!  Strokes of luck like this do not come around every day, and the good news is that you do not have to be an O2 Priority customer to take advantage of this amazing offer!

For more about this collection & what colours you get, and to grab a beauty bargain, head over to the Nails Inc site here!

What’s New In Beauty Wednesday…

High street stores have seen a massive drop of goodies you just cannot miss out on if you are a make-up and beauty junkie.

Nail polish that would normally cost between £11 and £15 has turned up in… Poundland. Yes, a premium product is being sold in pound stores!

Nails Inc goodies on sale at… Poundland!

Nails Inc recently re-designed their bottle shape to rectangular bottles. Nails Inc, fearing the stock in the old style cylinder bottles won’t sell, have gifted them to Poundland to sell for less than a quarter of their price. This is good news if you are a sucker for a good quality nail product. Several colours are on sale for just £1, including Maddox Street, a frosted black, Chelsea Physic Garden, a very Chanel like pastel blue shade perfect for spring, Galaxy Effect Glitter, Fibre Optic Glitter, Kensington Caviar Base Coat and Gel Effect Top Coat. Due to being put into plastic packaging and hung up some of the polishes may have separated, but upon shaking the ones I picked up, I found that the formula re-coagulated and it didn’t make a difference to their quality.

Some of the Nails Inc bargains I landed, here I was wearing Chelsea Physic Garden with Fitzroy Square Special Effects Glitter as a feature nail.  Others photographed are Galaxy Effect in Knightsbridge Road and Fibre Optic Effect in Belgravia Place.

Metallic nails are a big trend for spring, with Barry M recently extending their range of Molten Metal Nail Paints.

Holographic Lights is the best of them all if you want to master an iridescent manicure, it’s a whitish silver that packs plenty of rainbow multi chrome. Pink Ice is the perfect Rose Gold shade, while Blue Glacier is the most serene watercolour blue amped up with shimmer.  The darkest of the new shades is Black Diamond, a classic black that is lit from within by loads of microfine silver sparkle, it isn’t dissimilar in shade or finish to Silver Lining.  The collection features two expensive looking copper shades, Copper Mine and Bronze Bae, while Gold Digger is the ultimate 24K gold.

Barry M are currently doing a 2 for £7 offer in Boots stores, good news if you’ve fallen in love with more than one of these shades! My favourites are Pink Ice, Blue Glacier and Bronze Bae.

Mascara maestros Maybelline New York have bought out some of the best mascaras I have ever used and a lot of their formulas rival those of a high-end brand. Their latest addition to their Colossal family is the golden tubed Colossal Big Shot, which guarantees fully loaded volume and definition onto natural lashes in just one sweep.  Lash like a boss!

Maybelline The Colossal Big Shot Mascara

Another exciting mascara launch is Rommel London’s innovative new Volume Shake Mascara.  Volume Shake features the all new “shaker” inside its tube that enables the formula to be refreshed when it is needed. No more lacklustre lashes!

Innovation in mascara: Rimmel are the first to release a mascara with in built shaker system to refresh the formula when needed.

Meanwhile, glossy lips may be a top trend for this year but matte lips are going to stick around a lot longer too.   I am a massive fan of the NYX Liquid Suede and Soft Matte Lip Creams, I am a collector I must admit!  One of the newest lip care launches on the market is Lip Oil.  More fluid and more nourishing than balm, lip oils are rich in ingredients essential to maintaining hydrated and healthy lips.  Investing in a lip oil is a must if you want your matte liquid lipsticks to glide on effortlessly and stay smooth all day, it’s your weapon against the dreaded matte lip crack!

Beauty Tuesday: Essence Haul & Dupe Alert!

Lately I’ve been collecting various bits and bobs for my next vacation and couldn’t resist a rummage around Dudley’s Wilkinson store.

Continuing on my mission to downsize my luggage, I was after mini travel bottles, but the main attraction is the much extended Essence Cosmetics stand, my delight at finding the nail polish shades I thought I could only get on their site (www.essence.eu), I came away with 3 beauties today.  Essence nail polishes, like the majority of the Easence cosmetics, are priced with the budget-savvy, thrifty fashionista in mind, without compromising on style and trend inches.  At £1.60, The Gel nail polishes come in a bottomless spectrum of shades and finishes, some shades are satin, matte and even “oil-slick.”  It’s hard to choose just one favourite shade!  The two I’m currently loving are Paradise, the Oil-Slick (Essence’s phrase for colour-flipping duochrome) seafoam blue-green which is flooded with a gold pearlescent shimmer.  I’ve never come across a nail colour so beautifully unique!

Essence The Gel in Paradise, £1.60!

Let’s not forget Girl’s Best Friend, a light sanding of gold micro fine glitter which is intercepted with larger rocks of silver glitter.  Girl’s Best Friend is like a blingy, rocky beach trip for your nails!

Girl’s Best Friend, £1.60, Essence

I can’t help but notice it’s striking resemblance to Essie’s Hors d’Oveures, if you forgot what this one looked like, here’s a blast from the past, winter 2013 to be precise!

Essie Hors d’Oveures, £7.99, part of the Winter 2013 Encrusted Treasures collection.

Just goes to show more purse-friendly brands like Essence are just as ahead of the beauty and nail trends as the likes of Essie and OPI, who’s polishes are way pricier.

I couldn’t resist the temptation of spangly Effect nail polish in Hidden Garden, an eclectic party of gold glitter and multi-colour sparkles is just one of many Twinkling Bling Bling glitters, another mould-breaking nail trend, and Essence’s are a reasonable £2.00.

Party in a bottle! Essence Hidden Garden, £2.00!

Over the last few years, the manicure market has been experiencing a massive creative boom with nail art pens, transfers, gel-polishes, glitter effects and much more, with social media and YouTube turning into the new trend alert magazines.  In 2015, more people now find it economically better to browse a make-up website or watch a tutorial than to buy a glossy magazine, so a budget friendly brand which doesn’t compromise on quality or style miles like Essence is excellent news for the industry, it makes the latest in beauty accessible to a lot more people looking to save a pretty penny!

Mani Monday: Instant Nail Trend…

So today’s a rather wet bank holiday and some of you may have decided on a cosy day at home, can’t say I blame you!  I’m having an easy morning after a productive weekend of seeing family and friends and researching trends.

I’ve rediscovered the beauty phenomenon that is crackle effect nail polish.  The amount of great looks you can create is endless…
Models Own, Nails Inc, Avon, OPI and Barry M have all released their own crackle nail polishes.  A crackle manicure is so easy to achieve at home, just paint 1 or 2 coats of a normal nail colour, wait for this to dry and apply a coat of crackle nail polish on top, my pick is Barry M’s blue crackle.  The polish will crackle instantly in front of your very eyes!  To keep your masterpiece, wait a few minutes for your look to dry and apply a top coat, top coat is also good at sharpening the colour into high definition.

OPI Tomorrow Never Dies with Barry M blue Crackle Instant Nail Effects over the top!

Crackle nail polishes can be worn over any colour and they’re the least fiddly nail art to do, you don’t need any fine detail pens or brushes, so lower maintenance than some of the other nail art trends out there!

Avon’s crackle nail polishes are called Mosaic Effects

If you’re a nail art beginner, this is one quick, effortless trend you have to try!
