SS17 Trend Alert…

Gingham. That checkered pattern long associated with summer days in the school yard wearing a floaty dress. New Look’s latest offerings have, however, grown up and left the playground behind.

Tie-up ankle heeled sandals, £32.99

Monochrome and the occasional smattering of scattered floral embroidery have breathed a new lease of life into this summer classic. New Look’s drop of uber sleek tops, shoes and accessories will add instant chic to any spring look without the childhood throwback; who remembers their school summer dress…?

Black & white gingham clear anorak, £39.99

Black & white gingham floral embroidered mules, £25.99

Gingham strap watch, £14.99

Bell sleeve check top, £22.99

Light blue gingham Bardot style top, 17.99

Combinations of blue and white and red and white check are also big news for SS17, with the pattern varying in size from chunky checks down to ditzy detailing.

Black & white gingham tie front mini-skirt, £17.99

Rose embroidered frill trim shirt, £22.99

Blue & white gingham lace trim Bardot style top, £15.99

Red & white gingham lace trim cold-shoulder top, £15.99

Red & white gingham check print flat shoes, £12.99

Gingham check frill trim top, £19.99

It’s only March but I’ve already seen the checks making their way onto the high street, and cannot wait to pick up some of these irresistible pieces. This is a timeless pattern and doesn’t just remind me of summer school uniform, but of those oilcloth table settings at fish and chip shops, the sort of kitsch eateries that line the seafront at my favourite British seaside resorts.  Summer memories.

It’s been an exciting week style-wise, the highlight being the new H&M store in Wolverhampton.  When asked what stores people wanted to see included in the revamp of the Mander Centre, H&M topped the list.  Wolverhampton H&M is phenomenal, it’s the only H&M store in the Midlands to have a homewares section and it also has a make-up and beauty section to rival that of a high-end counter!  If you live in the Midands, it’s a stack bigger than their Merry Hill store.  Located downstairs in the Mander Centre, it’s the boost that part of the shopping mall needed.  Just when some people complained about all of the empty shells and closed shops in Wolverhampton, the first part of the shopping centre regeneration is coming to life.

I felt at such an advantage to be one of the first shoppers to see the new store on grand opening day (yesterday), it opened at 11am and the people waiting for it to open got a wonderful discount, 25% off your purchases all day.

I knew something exciting was hiding behind these boards!

There were so many things that caught my eye, and I’m looking forward to future trips to this magical store.  I came away with a pair of relaxed slim jeans which tick several fashion boxes with a couple of randomly placed rips and some rather funky patches.  The eyeball and lips patch you can see are made up of sequins.
I also bought some glossy court style shoes which are just the right red hue for the autumn and festive season, they will be perfect for those Christmas do’s and occasions where I fancy wearing heels.  I also came away with a 3 pack of rings and one of the lipsticks from their super affordable beauty range.  I treated myself to a pillar box red shade called Classic Cardinal. There’s an unlimited shade range with all of their make-up products and their  formulas and how they feel are up there with MAC!

If I could sum 2016 up with an unlikely sounding trend, I would say that it has been the year of relaxed jeans and pointy shoes, if you’re yet to try this look for yourself, it’s so easy to pull off and looks incredibly chic, even as everyday casual wearing flats.

This week seems to have been all about red shades, I have done some of my festive preparations early this year and although it’s been a rather tough year, I think I’m getting into the spirit of the season to be jolly and joyful.

This year’s John Lewis advert, just, no words.  Buster the boxer dog, those fox cubs and all the other animals are just beyond cute.  Innocent animals dancing on a trampoline and having fun hasn’t been without criticism though, with some overprotective parents Tweeting: “give your child Tuberculosis for Christmas!” I thought some people’s misconceptions were a little far-fetched, I can’t help but think the hidden message was “give your child hours of fun, fresh air and excercise for Christmas.” It’s so refreshing to see an advert depicting parents setting up a toy that isn’t square, because the world isn’t.

I took another trip to New Look solely to have a peek at their revamped beauty range, and couldn’t resist another 2 of their gorgeous nail polishes.  Ruby, which is the perfect winter wine, and Glitterbug.  I’ve noticed some of them are exact dupes of more expensive nail brands such as Deborah Lippmann.  Great news for beauty addicts who want to save some bucks!

After much Amazon-ing I finally found the ultimate cat eyeliner and smoky-eye cheat… Beth Bender Beauty stencils.  Not only are these meant to help you achieve a precision you only thought you could dream of, they also save loads of time.  Soon the days of winged eyeliner making you late will be gone!

National Lipstick Day!

I didn’t know there was a national day for all things lippy until this morning, and if you’re after that new shade you’ve wanted to try or want to stock up on your favourites, what better day to do so than National Lipstick Day!

Right now I’m a fan of Sexy Mother Pucker lipsticks from Soap & Glory.  Generally I’m into all things S&G but I have always loved their cosmetics line, especially their lipsticks and glosses.

I love the pinks and nudes in their lipstick collection, the metallic tubes, too, are out of this world.  The ultimate nude for me has to be the matte 5th Avenude, I also like Rosy Chic which is a matte pink shade. Super Nude and Barely Pinking are two others I also love.  Soap & Glory have provided a range of finishes for ther lipsticks too, mattes, satins and shines make-up the variety available at most large Boots stores.  I’d say the price range is a little more expensive than the average high street lippy but not high-end priced as they retail for £9.  I’m really tempted to try some of the other pinks.  Soap & Glory sure know a good pink!

Be sure to share your favourites on Twitter & Instagram & tag #NationalLipstickDay 💄

To get your pink fix, why not check out the amazing Soap & Glory website, where you can see their whole lipstick collection!

Hello again!  Feels like it’s been an age since I last posted an update but if you follow me on Twitter, Instagram, or my other YouTube channel, Very Vicky, you’ll know I have a new bundle of joy keeping me on my toes!  Perry joined the family over the Christmas period and he’s proving to be a rather playful little boy, into everything and a lively little brother to Charlie.  He’s 13 weeks today and a tri-colour mini Jack Rusell.

I’ve never owned a Jack Russell before and only looked after two for a friend, Perry’s energy knows no bounds and it’s the ultimate JRT trait, according to trusty Dogs 101!

I had a rather peaceful but busy Christmas making sure the puppy didn’t get into anything he shouldn’t like Christmas chocolates, etc but it was a rather memorable one too.

Today I got round to filming a long awaited favourites video for December and January which includes some goodies I got for Christmas plus make up and nail products from brands I love such as Orly and Models Own.  I also discovered the KIKO Cosmetics store that’s just opened at the Merry Hill Centre and I am so happy to finally be trying this terrific Italian brand.  There were KIKO stores across Europe and a recent opening in Birmingham too, but the store at the Merry Hill Centre has all the best of KIKO under one roof!  If you’re yet to try this brand, you’re in for a treat!

Here’s today’s favourites video!

That just leaves me to say my thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues past and present of David Bowie. I was shocked to hear the news of his passing this morning at age 69.  What a sad loss to the music industry.  Bowie’s music, stage presence and general style will remain a huge inspiration for many bands, artists and all his fans worldwide and I’m sure his legacy will live on.  Sleep well, Starman x
